Sketch a day challenge and Eco life

I hope you all had a great Christmas. It’s a new year so I thought I’d try and challenge my drawing skills this year.

I have started the sketch a day challenge and give myself about ten minutes everyday to draw something new. I never actually realised how hard it was going to be! It’s really tough, especially when your ‘not in the mood’ to draw (like when I was dying of flu!)

Here is a little snippet of a recent sketch. Hopefully I can keep it up!

I have also been experimenting with what I call ‘Eco life sculptures’ and pretty pleased with the result. I might try and make a blue whale sculpture soon. It’s so difficult sourcing all the materials at the right scale. I’ve also noticed that plastic figurines are getting smaller and smaller! Not enough room to work on.

So, I bought a pet hedgehog

My new little addition to the family is Otis the African Pygmy Hedgehog. He is damn cute (although I have found that he poos an awful lot for such a tiny creature)

Here is a random select of the cutest photos of him. Anybody else own one of these cuties? (I feel a hedgehog painting coming on……)

October Fair Preparation & New Frames

My obsession with watercolours lives on!

I have now finished a commission for a school friend of her mums three dogs.

I also found a great source of my frames and applied for a chariry art fair in October. Hoping to sell some of my watercolours and need felted animals that have been in storage for so long! I might also take along my acrylic owl painting that I finally managed to finish. Took so long as it was painted using just a pallette knife. Phew!

Back from beautiful Greece

I have been on holiday so not updated for a while. Had a fantastic break away from everything but I’m back now and all refreshed to create more work :)

I even managed to paint some pieces in the gorgeous Greek Sun (and on the plane) As well as fitting in some Scuba Diving, that was pretty unforgettable! Swimming with amazing rainbow wrasse, so many colours and they had the loveliest face ?

I found some beautiful Fabriano 200gsm paper, which I intend to put to good use. Large watercolours on my list!

Holding my own Craft party

So, my friends have been hassling me for a while now to show them this, that and the other. I have a lot of spare material lying around and thought what better way to use this up than by sharing it with my friends.

I invited them all round and went through how to make a device case with a flap that has button and elastic. I can honestly say that it was difficult! It took 4 hours! With a lot of slow setting sewing on the machine and learning to cut fabric in a straight line, we finally managed a finished product. I am so proud of all my new ‘students’ but might be a while before we make anything else haha. Here are the results….

Japanese garden and Ape watercolours

I am pleased to have finally finished a commission for one of my clients after months of hard work, as well as him purchasing another recent watercolour that he fell in love with.

I can now concentrate on building a cohesive collection and not neglecting family and friend requests! After all, they will always be my biggest fans :)

Making my own canvas

So I attempted to make my own canvas from scratch to challenge myself. Also, large custom canvases are so expensive! I did have help from boyfriend when cutting the wood but overall, I found the process quite simple !  Here are the step by step pictures of our efforts.

The amazing work of artist Peter Terrin

Browsing online, I found this amazing Belgian artist that does huge scale portraits with a contemporary twist. Love his work, especially the tribal paintings! But this one below is one of my favourites.

Definitely worth a look! terrinart.tumblr.com

Dress making continued

So, here are some photos of our finished dresses like I promised. It was a fantastic night and I’m sure the bride to be had a great time… So many people asking where I got my dress from and I can proudly reply “I made this” while grinning like an idiot haha
