So xmas came early for me this year, courtesy of my amazing boyfriend. I wanted to have one huge aquarium instead of the two smaller ones I currently have. Fish have moved from a pokey flat to a mansion haha Here are some the pictures of all my lovely people trying to install the massive 125 gallon monster! Thought we were gonna have to take the front door off to get it in lol
From this to…..
Its all about new additions this month with two new wipper snappers in Jabobs tank. For these of you who don’t know, Jacob is my beautiful blue acara. His friends include a black ghost knife fish called Klaus, a clown loach named Binks as well as an armoured shrimp calked Marlin. The two new tankmates are Gibson the Fire mouth and Wallace the rainbow cichlid 🙂 Hoping not too many fights break out!
Here is the process in picture form of my first attempt at painting on layers of resin. I jav have learnt that i need a lot more layers to make an effective piece. (Instead shoving some foam on top and painting it impatiently lol)
So, I am trying a new technique using resin layers made famous by the amazing Japanese artist Riusuke Fukahori.
Here on the left is my starting point of the mixed resin with catalyst setting in the base of this bowl.
I will be painting the fins of the fish on this layer then building them up with different areas of the fish to give it a 3 dimensional look. It will take me at least a week for the full image to appear as each layer needs a minimum of 24 hours to dry. I am pretty excited about this project as it is the first time I have used resin and it will be both a painting and a sculpture! Pretty cool, huh? I am going to try and make a video tutorial or photograph the process so all you lovely creative people can have a go too. Also if the end result looks so realistic I will have to prove it’s not just a photo of a fish! Lol Wishful thinking (or even fishful thinking haha)
