Mold making continued

Here are the resin stages of my mold making process. This is very tricky and I would recommend a mask over your nose as the fumes are bad for your health (in the long run) I dropped objects like buttons and beads in from above throughout the resin layers. Might be making a tutorial soon for the process from start to finish.

This shape was deliberately basic due to it being my first ever resin piece. Happy with the way it turned out even if all the buttons did float down to the top of the head lol

Long time no see

Well, I have been so busy in the past few months that I haven’t been able to update my blog for a while. Apologies to all those followers out there!

  • Moved house (with two aquariums is beyond stressful!) Loving the new house with my very own studio as well.
  • Started a new job at a Solicitors, so much to learn.
  • Packed my bags for a trip to Africa next month to meet the boyfriends family! So very excited!

I have been working on the biggest canvas I’ve ever painted on. It’s going to be immense ‘Project Fish’ is well under way. See the work in progress tab for step by step images with diary entries.

New Plush and Shop Labels

All my plush have new Affectionate Gizmo labels now 😀

I have recently started making some hand painted limited edition standing plush.

Extreme Miniature Cuteness

Ever since I was little I was always fascinated by anything micro or miniature. I collected every ‘Polly Pocket’ and miniature plush that I could beg my mum to buy me!

The idea of something being so much smaller than it should be brings out that girly ‘look at that tiny cute dog’ side in me 😀 lol

Here are some examples of the smallest things I have found online:

I came across a very talented Vietnamese crafting family on etsy and just had to link their shop:

Hopefully I will purchase my own Su-Ami creation one day.

Designer Toy Awards Entries 2012

I am very excited to have three pieces of my work nominated and put through for entry with this years Designer Toy Awards 2012, in association with Clutter Magazine. The categories for my entries are as follows:

Best Self Produced:

  • Unimon

Best Plush Design:

  • Dreamy Sloth
  • Mojo

I am up against some very well known and talented designers. It is a privilege just to have my work out there competing against the best!

Wish me luck! The second cut of these entries and official nominations for the awards will be announced in July. Hopefully one of my entries will make it on the final shortlist.

The Designer Toy Awards celebrates the creativity, innovation and artistic excellence in the Art Toy market, which after more than a decade has become a prominent and legitimate form of artistic and commercial expression. Now in its second year, the DTAs celebrate the best of the scene’s artists, designers, customizers and manufacturers, as well as honoring those involved in championing Art Toys throughout the world.
